"... at last, reward for straying off the well-trodden path.
Hoodwinked by burdock
posing as rhubarb.
So I took the birds as my guide.
And there on their perch
between the ferns...
blackcurrant, wild and tantalising."

There's nothing quite like the feeling of the rush of memory and emotion a fragrance evokes, with that first inhale of its scent.
Fragrance can often be so personal. Because of the way it can make you feel. It can remind you of people or places. It can make you feel strong and confident, or simply calm and relaxed. And what's most amazing is the way in which the same fragrance can have a completely different effect on different people.

Miller Harris totally get this. Oh, I do love a product with a story. Each fragrance has a carefully explored theme or is inspired by a particular place or experience that captures the imagination and implores you to reflect on your scent more deeply.

"Miller Harris breathes colour and life into the classic perfumer's art, with complex couture perfumes designed to tell vivid urban stories, inspired by London life."

And if this is their goal, then they certainly succeed.

The fragrance I selected, 'Lost in the City' is inspired by the encroachment of nature on the 'concrete jungle' of the city, but when I smell it I get something quite different from it. I imagine myself back at home, my little countryside, suburban muddle. I imagine putting on a tracksuit and tying my hair back into a lose topknot. I imagine spraying a few squirts of this, and embarking on a long country walk down the winding paths of my local woods. I imagine birds tweeting and wildlife furrowing, and the sharp but comforting juxtaposition this has with the distant sounds of cars going by, planes flying over, and other people also on their daily walks. I am contentedly lost in nature, but the familiar buzz of people and society is not too far away.

This scent is rather different. It's fresh and zesty, floral and natural, yet there is a deeper layer that lingers, which is warm and musky. It's a scent that is perfect for any occasion, day or night, and will most definitely be something unique and new in any perfume hoarder's collection.

For those of you interested in the notes, here's the breakdown:

Top: Bergamot Zest, angelica Seed, Blackcurrant.
Heart: Rhubarb, Rose Petals, Geranium
Base: Early Grey Tea, Crisp Amber, Musk

If this isn't quite for you, then the other scents sound equally intriguing. 'Wander through the Parks' sounds fresh, green and zesty, whilst 'Hidden on the Rooftops' seems deeper and warmer. I'd definitely recommend taking a trip down to the stores in Covent Garden or on Monmouth Street and seeing what story your imagination evokes when you take in that first whiff of a brand new scent.
