Heya guys! I hope you're all doing well. So today I wanted to post this outfit to show you just how polarised my style can be - I like to think of myself as somewhat of a 'style chameleon', if you will - sometimes I love to dress like a prim and proper 1950s housewife, and other days I like to pretend that I'm a rolling stones groupie! To me, that's what is so great about fashion! There's no real rules when it comes to personal style, and no real commitment; so if one day you want to dress like you've stepped straight out of a period drama, you can; and if the next you're not feeling that look anymore, and would rather dress like a mod or rocker from the 60s, then you can do that! I guess I'm still trying to find my own personal style and style formula; fashion allows us to experiment and explore all different colours, styles, trends and cuts - and I intend to dabble in anything and everything that takes my fancy!
So this outfit is definitely one of the more put-together, 'prim and proper', even romantic looks that I would wear. I have a friend who, whenever I dress a little smarter, cannot refrain from calling me a 'Ladyyyyyyyyy!', and it's kind of become a little joke that my fashion at times can make me look a real 'lady' haha!
I've always loved pussybow details, high necks, floaty fabrics, lace and flowy midi skirts - all the more typically 'lady-like' pieces, but I must confess that for this look, I was totally inspired by one of my favourite bloggers, the gorgeous and ever classy Arabella Golby, who swears by her pussybow blouse and cape combination. I had bought a cape at the beginning of the A/W season, but wasn't too sure how to style it. After watching her Cape Lookbook however, I completely loved the way she had styled her capes, I think a great way to wear them is to concentrate on detail around the neck and the sleeve areas - this is what I have aimed at doing here. Now for me, this look is a little 'out there', I think anything more and I'd perhaps feel a little self conscious, so in order to keep it a little more with my characteristically smart/casual style, I decided to add that touch of casual with my pale blue straight leg jeans.
I wore this look on a day out in London, where I went for dinner with my Mum and Sister. I won't lie to you, as much as I love these beautiful Topshop ghillie lace-up heels, they're not the most comfortable, so I was rather glad for the fact that we were merely travelling to the restaurant, sitting and stuffing our faces with Chinese food, and then making our way back, as opposed to a day of traipsing around London.
I think accessories also go a long way to elevating a look - they add that something extra. I added a pair of faux pearl earrings, my Asos sunnies, and this rather sweet little mock croc bag that I nabbed in the Zara sale for a tenner during the January sales. I also put my unruly mane into a high bun to further accentuate the polished feel of this outfit and keep the detail on the neck. Altogether, I think it came out rather well!
I suspect that this is probably the last time I'll be wearing a cape for a few months, seeing as we move into spring and then summer, outerwear I'll be embracing is likely to be longline blazers, trench coats and cropped jackets, but I look forward to styling this up again come Autumn!
Ultimately I aimed to create a polished, super smart and ladylike look, balanced with just that touch of casual to make it wearable for me.
What do you guys think? Do you like to dress in more than one 'style' and consider yourself a bit of a style chameleon like me? Let me know in the comments below!
